General information

Shoes

All children should wear black shoes that are strong, safe, practical and sensible.  High-heeled shoes or boots are not acceptable or appropriate for school.  Similarly, open-toed sandals, slip-on shoes and balled pumps are inappropriate a they leave feet unprotected.

Labelling Clothing

All articles of clothing, including shoes, must be clearly labelled with your child’s name. It is essential that shoes are marked.

Hair

Long hair must be tied back at all times. We do not permit extreme hairstyles, dyed, gelled, spiked hair or hair with patterns or lines shaved in.

Jewellery

No jewellery is to be worn in school, except small stud earrings (which must be removed for sports lessons). Hooped and larger stud earrings can be very dangerous, unsuitable and inappropriate for school, as are necklaces, rings and bracelets.

Children are not permitted to bring rucksacks, handbags or satchels to school. Only Surrey Street Primary School book bags and drawstring bags are acceptable.  However, it is also acceptable to have a plain red book bag and/or plain red drawstring bag.

Uniform Exchange

The Uniform Exchange is run by Luton charity Level Trust, which works in partnership with the school to give every child a level chance in education.

They help children aged 3 -16 by providing gift cards for school shoes and coats, and running a Uniform Exchange ‘swap shop’ based in The Mall in Luton.
