Welcome to the summer term!

Dear parents/guardians,

Wow! This year is flying by; the children are now in their final term of year 6! We hope you had a brilliant Easter! Here is a summary of what children will be learning about this term:

English we will be reading the book 'Holes' and doing some writing linked to it. We will also be writing some persuasive leaflets persuading our reader to visit South America

Maths we will be learning about a range of areas to prepare the children for high school

Science we will be learning about evolution and inheritance

Geography we will be studying South America and then mountains after half term

Computing we will be writing travel blogs linked to our South America topic

PE we will be doing athletics and OAA (outdoor adventurous activities)

RE we will learn about humanists and their beliefs as well as people who inspire us

PE will continue to take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure children keep their kit in school.

As you will be aware, we have had a high focus this year on children reading and would like this to continue as we prepare the children to move to high school. Please ensure to listen to your child read, everyday ideally but at least 3 times a week, and we will award them with a house point each time.

This term we will be working hard to ensure your child is ready and prepared for their move to high school. As teachers, we will be meeting with high schools to give them information about the children and also working with the children to ensure they feel ready for the move and answering any questions they have. Please be sure to look out for information from the high schools about transition days or any extra transition support they may be offering. Connecting with your child's new school on social media or via their website is a great way to keep up with what they are offering.

The summer term is an exciting one in year 6 as we will do lots of lovely things to celebrate your child's time in primary school coming to an end. This includes creating a play or movie which we will start working on soon!

Thank you very much for your support. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us through the school office or Class Dojo.

Kind regards,

Miss Betts and Mrs Ogunji (Year 6 teachers)

Mrs Dominowska, Miss Rogers and Miss Jones (Year 6 support staff)
