Here’s what we’ll be covering this term in Year 2:

English

This term, we will be following the Primary Writing Project for English. Children will learn, innovate and invent a variety of text types such as stories and instructions.

---

Maths

In maths, we are going to be focusing on learning a variety of skills such as place value, addition, subtraction, time and money. We are going to be encouraging children to deepen their knowledge of number bonds. You can also encourage them with this at home by practicing number facts on the Numbots website!

---

In the foundation subjects we will be learning about:

Computing – Effective searching

RE – God and faith

Science – Living things and their habitats

DT – Mechanisms

PSHE – Dreams and goals

PE

We have PE every Monday and Tuesday

We will be improving our Hockey and Gymnastics skills across this term.

Children will need trainers for all PE lessons. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing; this can be in the form of plain black tracksuit bottoms with elasticated legs, plain black or red shorts and a plain white or red t-shirt.

Please note:  No jewellery is to be worn on PE days.

Each week, you can choose one objective to complete with your child at home.

Topic Learning log options to be done at home Effective searching – Computing topic (1 week)   Week beginning 6th January Search for information based on a topic of your choice. Or Write instructions about how people can search effectively for information. God and faith – RE topic (1 week)   Week beginning 13th January Design a poster to show the importance of pilgrimages. Or Write what you have learnt about pilgrimages. Living things and their habitats – science topic (2 weeks) Week beginning 20th January & Week beginning 27th January Draw living things and their habitats. Or Write about living things and their habitats. Mechanisms – DT topic (2 weeks) Week beginning 3rd February & Week beginning 10th February Create your own moving vehicle. Or Write what you have learnt about wheels and axles.

To share what your child has done at home, you can send a message/photo on Class Dojo or upload a photo onto your child’s Class Dojo profile.

Your child does not need to bring any of the work with them to school.

Please also encourage your child to read regularly at home, practice their number bonds using the Numbots website and practice their spellings.
