We are writing to welcome you and your child to Year 6! The children have come back looking super smart and ready to learn which is fantastic. We are thrilled to be back at school with them.
Year 6 is a special year in primary school and offers lots of opportunities to the children. They will have the chance to become house captains as well as taking on other roles around school like road safety officers and play leaders.
Here is a summary of what children will be learning about this term:
English we will be learning to write persuasive speeches to be House Captains and studying the book 'Wonder'
Maths we will be focusing on place value and using efficient operations
Science we will be learning about electricity
History we will be learning all about World War II
Geography we will be learning about coasts
DT we will be learning to sew
RE we will be learning about justice and poverty
This term, both classes will have PE on Monday and Thursday. Please make sure your child brings in their PE kit and keeps it in school. Our lessons could be inside or out so they must have plimsolls and trainers. Information on the correct kit can be found on the school website. Unlike in other years, any child who doesn't have their kit 3 times in a half term will get a detention as we are trying to prepare them for high school.
As you may be aware, the children will be doing SATs tests in May. We will be doing lots of work in school in order to prepare the children for these but it makes a huge difference if you read every day with your child at home and encourage them to practise their spellings and complete their homework on time.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us through the school office. We look forward to learning lots and having fun in the children's final year of primary school!
