Year 5 letter Spring 1

Dear parents/guardians,

Happy new year and welcome to the spring term! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and are looking forward to another busy, fun term. Here is a summary of what children in Year 5 will be learning about this term:

English we will be learning to spooky suspense stories as well as complaint letters.

Maths we will be learning about shape, measure and statistics

Science we will be learning about materials and their properties and takingpart in British Science Week!

PSHE we will be exploring our dreams and goals

RE we will learn about creation and science: conflicting or complementary?

Art we will be taking part in an exciting whole school art week focussing on Penelope with the suitors

This term, Ruby and Carmine will be having PE on Thursdays and Garnet on Wednesdays. Please make sure your child brings in their PE kit and keeps it in school. Our lessons could be inside or out so they must have plimsolls and trainers. Swimming lessons will continue to take place on Tuesday mornings starting from and your child will need to bring in their swimming costume and towel in a bag each Tuesday. We have been so impressed with the vast majority of the children who remember their kit every week: well done!

As you will be aware, we have had a high focus this year on children reading, practising their number card and spellings as well as remembering their kits. We would like to say a huge well done to the children who have really worked hard to achieve their targets every week and thank you to the parents who have supported children with this. We will be continuing to work on this so please ensure that:

  • Children read at home and have their reading record signed at least twice a week
  • All PE and swimming kits are in
  • Children are practising their spellings and numbercard often at home

Learning logs will continue to be optional and we are prioritising spellings, numbercards and reading. However, we have been impressed with the number of children who have completed some learning log tasks as well as their spellings, numbercards and reading and we look forward to seeing even more learning logs this term.

Thank you very much for your support. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us through the school office.

Kind regards,

Miss Betts, Miss Woolley, Mrs Ogunji and Miss Khan (Year 5 teachers)

Mrs Bonfield, Mrs Dominowska and Miss Griffiths (Year 5 teaching assistants)
