Summer term letter

Dear parents/guardians,

Wow! This year is flying by; the children are now in their final term of year 5! We hope you had a brilliant Easter! Here is a summary of what children will be learning about this term:

English: we will be learning to write adventure stories and persuasive texts based around our exciting trip to Knebworth House!

Maths :we will be learning about the statistics, place value, four operations and fractions, decimals and percentages

Science: we will be learning about living things and their life cycles

Geography: we will be studying our extreme Earth

PE: we will be doing athletics and rounders ready for sports day

RE: we will learn about how people live through good and bad times

Ruby will have PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays; Garnet will have PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays; and Carmine on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please make sure your child brings in their PE kit and keeps it in school. Our lessons could be inside or out so they must have plimsolls and trainers.

As you will be aware, we have had a high focus this year on children reading, practising their number card and spellings as well as remembering their kits. We would like to say a huge well done to the children who have really worked hard to achieve their targets every week and thank you to the parents who have supported children with this. We will be continuing to work on this so please ensure that:

  • Children read at home and have their reading record signed at least three times a week
  • All PE kits are in
  • Children are practising their spellings and numbercard often at home

Learning logs will continue to be optional and we are prioritising spellings, numbercards and reading. However, we have been impressed with the number of children who have completed some learning log tasks as well as their spellings, numbercards and reading and we look forward to seeing even more learning logs this term.

We have three trips coming up this term: Knebworth house (Friday 3rd May), Hazard Alley (Monday 13th May) and Cadbury World (Friday 14th June). Thank you to the parents who have already paid and sent in the money. If you have not paid for the trips yet, please could you do so as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your support. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us through the school office.

Kind regards,

Miss Betts, Miss Woolley and Miss Khan (Year 5 teachers)
