Welcome back!

Dear parents/guardians,

We are writing to welcome you and your child to Year 5. We hope you've had a wonderful summer and we have enjoyed hearing about your adventures from the children.

Here is a summary of what children will be learning about this term:

Literacy we will be learning to write myths and newspaper reports

Numeracy we will be focussing on place value and using efficient operations

Science we will be learning about forces and Earth and Space

History we will be learning all about the Vikings

Geography we will be learning about the United Kingdom

DT we will be making musical instruments

PE we will be continuing our swimming lessons and playing netball and football

This term, Ruby and Carmine will be having PE on Thursdays and Garnet on Wednesdays. Please make sure your child brings in their PE kit and keeps it in school. Our lessons could be inside or out so they must have plimsolls and trainers.

Swimming lessons will take place on Tuesday mornings starting from 11th September and your child will need to bring in their swimming costume and towel in a bag each Tuesday.

We are determined to do our best to help the children succeed this year. As a result, the children have set themselves targets that they are working hard to achieve with our support. These include:

  • Reading at home at least twice a week
  • All PE/swimming kits in
  • Get tested for a number card sticker each week
  • Getting all of their spellings correct when tested on Fridays

We are hopeful that you will support your child in achieving these targets by reading often with them and signing their reading record, encouraging them to practise their number card and spellings and ensuring they have the kits they need.

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us through the school office. We look forward to getting to know you all over the year!

Kind regards,

Miss Betts, Miss Woolley, Mrs Ogunji and Miss Khan (Year 5 teachers)

Mrs Bonfield, Mrs Ramotaur and Mrs Dominowska (Year 5 teaching assistants)
