Offline- Spread a layer of sand, flour or uncooked rice into the base of a tray/on a plate. Ask a grown-up to say a word or a sound then use your finger or a paintbrush to write the word into the sand. Try writing these words: sun, box, tap, cat, dog

Stop the video clip after each question.What has happened to the number of pirates on ship? (less or smaller number).Explain to your child that over the next couple of days they are going to learn about subtraction/take away.

Offline:

Explain to your child that over the next couple of days we are going to learn about subtraction/take away.Share the learning objective with the class. (Take one number away from another) and the key vocabulary related to it e.g. subtract, take away, less, difference, equals.

Play a subtraction game while you have a snack. Count out five pieces of fruit on to a plate. Then, eat one of the pieces of fruit. How many are left? If your grown-up eats one piece of fruit, how many would be left?
